Summer Management of Shed Peach

After harvesting the greenhouse peaches, it's time to uncover the trees. Once the protective film is removed, continued care is essential to extend leaf longevity, prevent premature leaf drop, enhance photosynthetic activity, and encourage flower bud formation. This will set the stage for a productive harvest in the coming year. First, summer pruning aims to control branch length and improve air circulation within the canopy. Remove excessive branches, shoots, or vertical growth that may become too dense. Encourage horizontal growth by trimming upward-growing branches and thinning out overcrowded areas to maintain an open structure. Second, disease prevention is crucial after harvest. Apply a 500–600 times dilution of 70% mancozeb or 700 times 50% carbendazim. Then, spray 2–3 applications of 200–240 times diluted Bordeaux mixture between July and August to protect against leaf and stem diseases, as well as pests like leaf caterpillars and moths. Third, post-leaf fall management involves watering the tree thoroughly before winter sets in. During dormancy, focus on shaping the tree to develop strong fruiting branches and expand the canopy. Prune according to the "more branches, less cutting" principle, keeping as many branches as possible while encouraging slow growth. Use the first method to delay fruiting, leaving only a full bud at the tip of main branches. For fruiting trees, selectively remove some short fruiting branches and lightly prune medium and long ones. For trees that have been fruiting consecutively, consider gradual renewal to rejuvenate the tree and restore its health. Fourth, combine fertilization with soil cultivation in early autumn. After harvest, temperatures are still warm, and daylight hours are longer—ideal conditions for post-harvest feeding. Fertilizing now boosts photosynthesis, increases nutrient storage, supports flower bud development, and improves bud quality for winter survival. Apply 10–20 kg of decomposed chicken manure along with about 0.5 kg of NPK fertilizer, and water the tree after application. To further support leaf function, spray foliar micronutrients at a concentration of around 0.3%.
