Fresh-keeping agent for preservation of tender corn
Preservation agents can effectively extend the shelf life of fresh corn for 8 to 10 months, making it a valuable technique for seasonal sales. At just around 2 cents per ear, fresh corn is an affordable crop that can be sold during off-peak seasons like Winter and Spring, generating over 4,000 yuan per mu. This method works well for storing various types of corn, including sweet corn, black corn, red corn, colored corn, and fruit corn.
The preservative formulation includes: 90% animal serum albumin (extracted from animal blood, available at pharmaceutical companies), 4.5% ferrous sulfate, 2% calcium stearate (available in chemical supply stores), 2.5% starch (common food-grade starch), and 1% galangal (found in pharmacies). All ingredients are ground into a fine powder and thoroughly mixed to create the preservation agent. The product meets national health standards and is safe for human use, being non-toxic and harmless. However, it should be used immediately after preparation and not stored for long periods.
To use the preservative, mix 260 kg of warm water with 1 kg of the preservative powder to create a solution. Soak the fresh corn ears in the solution for 5 minutes, then remove and drain the excess water. Place the corn in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight. Before storing, ensure the storage room is disinfected using chlorothalonil. The floor should be covered with 33 cm wide vents to allow proper air circulation. If storing for extended periods, check the corn once a month and remove any moldy ears. No temperature control is required, and no electricity or cellar is needed, making this method both cost-effective and easy to implement.
