Canada approves botulinum toxin M35 as a bacteriostatic preservative

According to Health Canada, on October 13, the Health Canada issued a notice approving the use of Carnobacterium divergens M35 as a preservative for some foods.

It is understood that Health Canada has received a food additive application requesting the use of botulinum toxin M35 to inhibit Listeria monocytogenes in ready-to-eat cold smoked salmon slices and ready-to-eat cold smoked salmon slices.

After a corresponding assessment, Health Canada believes that the widespread use of Botox M35 as a Listeria inhibitor is safe.

Health Canada issued a proposal on June 7 and set a 75-day comment period. During the comment period, Health Canada received an opinion, but did not receive information that was inconsistent with Health Canada's safety assessment.

Therefore, Health Canada approved the botulinum botulinum M35 as a preservative for the inhibition of Listeria, for ready-to-eat cold smoked salmon slices and ready-to-eat cold smoked salmon slices.
