According to foreign media reports, for hundreds of years, folks have been using ginger to treat various diseases such as colds and nausea. However, researchers at the University of Georgia now find that eating ginger daily can reduce muscle soreness caused by exercise.
Patrick O'Connor, a professor of the Department of Human Kinesiology at the University of Georgia School of Education, said that although the white mouse experiment showed that ginger has anti-inflammatory effects, little was known about its efficacy in treating experimentally induced muscle soreness. It is believed that heating ginger, such as adding ginger to the food, will increase its analgesic effect.
Professor O'Connor conducted two studies on the efficacy of ginger or heated ginger to relieve muscle soreness. The entire investigation time was 11 days. The researchers also included Chris Black, an assistant professor of kinematics at the University of Georgia, and Matt Helin, a doctoral student at the University of Georgia, and David Hurley, an associate professor of human health at the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine. In addition, 34 and 40 volunteers participated in the study, and consecutively consumed capsules containing ginger or heated ginger or placebo within 11 days. Studies have shown that daily supplementation of ginger can reduce muscle soreness by about 40%, while ginger is more effective after heating.
Professor O'Connor said: "The economic and personal cost of pain is extremely high. Muscle soreness is one of the most common pains. Exercise-related muscle soreness is a common injury to sports or leisure (such as gardening). For this experience Anyone who can really alleviate this soreness is very popular."
