Effect of Perilla frutescens extract on production performance and immune performance of beef cattle

The main active ingredients of the new feed additive of Perilla frutescens extract are α-linolenic acid, linoleic acid and flavonoids, which have the effect of improving carcass quality and beef quality. However, it is rarely reported. In this study, Perilla frutescens extract was added to the diet of beef cattle during finishing period, and then indicators such as production performance, immune performance, carcass quality, and beef quality of beef cattle were measured. The addition of perilla extract improved the production performance, immune performance, and carcass of beef cattle. The effect of quality and beef quality provides the basis for the application of extracts of Perilla frutescens in actual production of beef cattle.

The trial began on November 23, 2009 and ended on January 21, 2010 for a total of 60 days. The experiment was conducted at Niuzhuang, Dingjia Town, Dangshan County, Chongqing (the experimental site of the National Beef Industry Technical System Project Group of the Animal Science and Technology College of Southwest University).

A total of 19 Cnidox cattle weighing 376.7 37.0 kg were randomly selected and divided into 2 groups. The first group of 10 cows was the control group, and the second group of 9 cows was the experimental group. The control group was fed a control diet. The diet of the experimental group was: control diet + 0.03% perilla extract. The control dietary nutrient level was designed with reference to "Cattle Breeding Standards" (NY/T815-2004). Perilla fructus extract new feed additive was developed and produced by Chongqing Yousheng Technology Development Co., Ltd.

The experimental cattle were housed in open cow houses, which were covered with plastic film to keep the wind cool. The cattle were bred in a single column and the daily feed was provided at 2.5% of body weight of air-dried feed. The concentrates were fed twice a day and fed at 5:30 am and 4:30 pm respectively; the roughage was fed once a day at 4 pm. Test cows freely drink water. Keep inside the house clean and hygienic.

The results showed that:

1. Adding Perilla frutescens extracts to diets increases average daily gain (ADG) and average dry matter intake (ADMI) of beef cattle by 8.5% and 3.2%, respectively, compared to the control group, resulting in a decrease in feed gain ratio. 5.8%, indicating that the extract of Perilla frutescens has the effect of accelerating the growth of beef cattle and improving feed utilization.

2. Compared with the control group, the addition of perilla extract in the beef cattle diet increased the Ig A and Ig G content of beef cattle by 8.6% and 2.2% respectively; the interferon content increased by 7.0%; the IL-1 increased by 12.1%. It shows that extracts of Perilla frutescens can significantly improve the humoral immune function of beef cattle and increase the immunobiological activity of cytokines, thereby increasing the immunity of beef cattle and reducing the incidence.

During the trial, cough, diarrhea, and fever were observed in the beef cattle of the control group, but no such symptoms were observed in the beef cattle of the experimental group to which the perilla extract was added. This confirmed the extraction of both perilla seeds in both theoretical and practical production. The new feed additives have the effect of improving the immunity of beef cattle.

3. Adding perilla extract in the diet, the serum growth hormone (GH) content of beef cattle increased by 13.8% compared with the control group, and the insulin-like growth factor-2 (IGF-2) increased by 2.1%, indicating that the extract of perilla Promote beef cattle growth, which is consistent with the increase in beef cattle daily gain.

4. Adding perilla extract in the diet increased the slaughter rate and meat production rate of beef cattle by 1.6% and 2.4%, respectively, compared to the control group, indicating that the supplemented perilla extract had a thick, flesh-colored, and fatty color on the beef cattle. There is no significant effect of marble marsh, p-value, muscle shear force, and muscle hydrodynamics, but the quality of the carcass can be improved by one grade.

In summary, the addition of perilla extract in the fattening cattle diet can increase beef cattle production performance, immune performance and disease resistance, improve carcass quality grade, and significantly improve economic efficiency.

The Urine Bag set consists of A drainage bag and A suction device. Qhy-a is the single drainage bag, and qhy-b is the drainage bag + suction device. The drainage bag consists of the bag body, catheter , lifting lug, joint, guard cap, drainage port, drainage bottom plug, anti-reflux device, and current limiting clip. The suction device is composed of negative pressure bottle, drainage tube joint, suction tube joint, suction connection pipe, automatic drainage device, drainage port and bag body.Should be sterile.
