Characteristics and uses of six common filters

Characteristics and uses of several commonly used filters

1. Nylon film (Nylon)

Features: good temperature resistance, can withstand 121 °C saturated steam hot-pressure disinfection for 30min , maximum working temperature 60 °C, good chemical stability, can withstand dilute acid, dilute alkali, alcohols, esters, oils, hydrocarbons, A variety of organic and inorganic compounds such as halogenated hydrocarbons and organic oxides.

Uses: electronic, microelectronics, semiconductor industry water filtration, tissue culture media filtration; liquid filtration, beverage filtration, high purity filtration; filtration of aqueous solutions and organic mobile phase filtration.

2. Polyvinylidene fluoride film ( PVDF )

Features: high mechanical strength, high tensile strength, good heat resistance and chemical stability, low protein adsorption rate; strong negative electrostatic and hydrophobic; hydrophobic and hydrophilic. However, it cannot tolerate acetone, DMSO , THF , DMF , dichloromethane, chloroform, and the like.

Uses: Hydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride membrane is mainly used for gas and steam filtration, high temperature liquid filtration ;   The hydrophilic polyvinylidene fluoride film is mainly used for purification filtration of tissue culture media, additives and other sterilization filtration solvents, chemical raw materials, aseptic processing of reagents, filtration of high temperature liquids, and the like.

3. Mixed cellulose ester

Features: relatively uniform pore size, high porosity, no media shedding, thin texture, low resistance, fast filtration rate, minimal adsorption, low cost of use, but not resistant to organic solutions and strong acid and alkali solutions.

Uses: The pharmaceutical industry needs hot-press sterilization of water injection, large infusion to filter out particles; for the sterilization of heat-sensitive drugs ( insulin ATP , coenzyme A and other biochemical preparations ) , using 0.45 micron filter ( or 0.2) solution in the particles and Analytical determination of oil-insoluble matter, and determination of water pollution index; research department applied to somatic cell hybridization and mitochondrial complementation prediction heterosis research.

4. Polypropylene

Features: no adhesive, stable chemical properties, flexible, not easy to break, high temperature resistance, can withstand autoclaving. Non-toxic, tasteless, acid and alkali resistant.

Uses: Suitable for making all kinds of coarse and fine filters, folding filter; for frame and frame filter press membranes for beverage, pharmaceutical and other industries; suitable for reverse osmosis membrane, ultrafiltration membrane support and pretreatment; polypropylene membrane Non-toxic, can be widely used in medicine, chemical, food, beverage and other fields; hydrophobic, especially for gas filtration.

5. Polyethersulfone (PES)

Features: The microporous membrane of ether sulfone is a hydrophilic membrane with high flow rate, low dissolution, good strength, no adsorption of protein and extract, and five pollution to the sample.

Uses: Low protein adsorption and high drug compatibility, designed for biochemical, inspection, pharmaceutical and sterilization filtration devices.

6. Polytetrafluoroethylene ( PTFE )

Features: The most extensive chemical compatibility, can withstand strong solvents such as DMSO , THF , DMF , dichloromethane, chloroform.

Application: Filtration of all organic solutions, especially strong solvents that other membranes cannot tolerate.
