Poultry deficiency vitamin B11, B12

Vitamin B11 deficiency Vitamin B11, also known as folic acid and leaf extract, is abundant in yeast powder and liver powder. It is rich in alfalfa meal, cottonseed meal, wheat bran and green feed, but it is poor in corn.

Symptoms The lack of folic acid in chicks and young birds hinders growth, resulting in anemia, paralysis of the head and neck, spasms on the ground, and white feathers in colored feathers. Lack of folic acid also increases the need for choline in young birds, and can easily cause osteoporosis. When adult birds lack folic acid, both the egg production rate and the hatchability of the eggs are affected.

Prevention and control measures When fowls lack folic acid, they can feed more green feed, choose folic acid containing multi-dimensional hormones, and conditionally feed yeast powder, liver powder, and fresh liver to supplement. Folic acid can be used if necessary, adding 50 mg per kilogram of feed.

Lack of Vitamin B12 Vitamin B12 is almost entirely present in animal feeds, and plant feeds contain almost no vitamin B12. In most poultry diets, vitamin B12 should be added to the diet of chicks and breeders.

Symptoms and lesions When chicks lack vitamin B12, they exhibit poor plumage, kidney damage, reduced plasma protein, elevated levels of non-protein nitrogen and glucose in the blood, and severe death. When the chicks lack both choline and methionine, bone bruises and dislocations can occur. In the absence of vitamin B12 in adult chickens, egg production decreased, hatching rate of hatching eggs dropped sharply, and embryos died inside the shell. The mortality rate of hatched chicks is high. In addition, the hens also showed muscle inflammation and decreased body condition.

Prevention and control measures Supplementing fish meal, meat scraps, liver powder and yeast in feed, or feeding cobalt chloride and supplementing with special microorganisms capable of synthesizing vitamin B12 can prevent the occurrence of vitamin B12 deficiency. Injecting 2 micrograms of vitamin B12 into each diseased chicken can increase egg production. Adding 4 mg of vitamin B12 per 100 kg of feed to the breeding hens will maintain the high hatchability of the breeding eggs.
