Rice bran feed three bogey
It is important to avoid overfeeding rice bran in pig diets. The recommended amount of rice bran should be between 25% and 30%, and should not exceed 30%. Exceeding this limit can lead to the production of low-quality soft fat meat, as well as cause skin diseases and other health issues. Additionally, excessive rice bran may increase body fat, reduce reproductive performance, and even lead to diarrhea, poor growth, and developmental problems in pigs.
Another key point is to avoid storing high-quality rice bran for too long. Due to its high oil content, rice bran can become rancid if kept for extended periods, which reduces its nutritional value and makes it less palatable. Therefore, it's best to use fresh rice bran for feeding pigs and avoid long-term storage. In particular, do not feed pigs with rice bran that has been stored for a long time, as it can negatively affect their health and performance.
Furthermore, when feeding rice bran to pigs, it's not advisable to add calcium and phosphorus separately. Instead, it’s better to combine rice bran with other ingredients like refined feeds, roughage, and green feeds to ensure a balanced nutrient intake. However, since rice bran is naturally low in calcium, it’s necessary to supplement the diet with additional calcium sources. Although rice bran contains a fair amount of phosphorus, pigs are not able to absorb it efficiently. To address this, it's recommended to add 1.5% to 2% bone meal to the pig's diet. Additionally, allowing pigs to spend more time in the sun can help improve the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, supporting overall bone health and development.
By following these guidelines, farmers can maximize the benefits of using rice bran in pig nutrition while minimizing potential risks. Proper feeding practices not only enhance pig health but also improve productivity and meat quality, making it a valuable component of a well-balanced diet.
